Maudie I. Denton, 80, of Sikeston, died on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at 8:30 a.m. at her residence. She was born on Jan. 1, 1923, in Kennett to the late Henry William and Levadie Mae Hoxworth Abernathy. She was a housewife and homemaker and had previously worked at Wilcox Electric Mfg. Co. in Kansas City.
She was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Sikeston.
On Jan. 8, 1969, she married Herbert Guy Denton in Kansas City, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Joe Montgomery of Oran and Danny P. Denton of Sikeston; two step-sons, Bob Denton of Barlow, Ky., and Allen Denton of Beaversville, Ill.; five daughters, Peggy Chapman of Morley, Diana Johnson of Vanduser, Linda Meals, Gail Butrum, and Carolyn L. Hardin, all of Sikeston; two brothers, Leroy Abernathy and Bob Abernathy, both of Morley; four sisters, Fern Thomas of Oran, Tinia Clark of Dexter, Violet Farmer of Sikeston, and Pretshie Ellsworth of Pensacola, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Montgomery; two brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in the Nunnelee Chapel with Rev. Richard Whitman, pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in New Morley Cemetery.
