He owned J.R. James Real Estate Company in Sikeston and was a member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ.
On May 16, 1941, in Flatriver he married Velma Ruth Hinton who survives of the home in Sikeston.
Other survivors include one daughter, Sharon Elliott of Sikeston; three brothers, Van H. James of Crawfordsville, Ind., Mitchell C. James of Whitehall, Ill., and Harold B. James of Tracy, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Lively of Dexter and June Gettings of Anderson, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl B. James, Clyde R. James and Curtis O. James; and two sisters, Lora Johnson and Ruby Nuckols.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston. Officiating will be Pat Hogan assisted by Johnny Hester, both ministers of Shady Acres Church of Christ.
Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston. Full military rites will be conducted by the Missouri Military Funeral Honor Guard.
