Jackie Lee Hughes

Jackie Lee Hughes, son of the late Vernon Hughes and Mary Perry Hughes, was born on April 23, 1936, at Ann Arbor, Mich., and died at his residence in Bernie on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at the age of 67.

Mr. Hughes had served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked in the Bernie Public School System for 25 years in the Transportation and Maintenance until his retirement on Dec. 20, 2002. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Northside Baptist Church of Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Nelda Sudbury on March 19, 1960, in Pontiac, Mich. Mrs. Hughes survives of the home in Bernie.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Allen Lee Hughes and wife Karen of Bloomfield and Robert Edgar Hughes and wife Brenda of Flint, Mich.; four grandchildren, Jessica DeAnne Hughes and Kaycee Lee Hughes, both of Bernie, and Christen Stepp and Candice Stepp, both of Bloomfield; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.M. and Anna Allen of Bernie.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. O.H. Brooks officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with full military honors.
