Vera Ballard

Vera Ballard, the daughter of the late Nathan and Lilly Forrest Burchard, was born in Dyersburg, Tenn., on Sept. 17, 1915, and died at the Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tenn., on Oct. 18, 2003, at the age of 88.

Mrs. Ballard had moved to Fisk in the early 1960's and moved to Columbia, Tenn., in March of 2002. She was a member of the Liberty Full Gospel Church in Poplar Bluff.

On Dec. 16, 1933, she was married to Johnnie L. Ballard in New Madrid, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1992.

Mrs. Ballard is survived by one son, Bobby Ballard of Olive Branch, Miss.; one daughter, Betty Tate of Spring Hill, Tenn.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward Burchard.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Larry Ward of Poplar Bluff officiating.

Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
