Laura Matthews, daughter of the late George Washington Miller and Martha Ann Cooper Miller, was born on Sept. 24, 1912, at Dexter, and departed her life in the Fountainbleau Lodge at Cape Girardeau on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at the age of 91.

Mrs. Matthews was a member of the Sadler's Chapel Methodist and United Methodist Church in Dexter, a member of Walnut Lane Extension Club, a homemaker, and a former resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Frank Cranston Matthews on May 17, 1931, at Waterloo, Ill., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1983.

Survivors include one daughter, Marianne C. Sperling of Jackson; two granddaughters, Linda Gail Drew and Rhonda Jean Matthews, both from AAlabama; six great-grandchildren, Amanda Drew Simpson of Alabama, Randall Scott Drew stationed in Colorado serving in the U.S. Army; Justin Gabriel Drew and Laura Leigh Drew, both of Alabama, Bryce Allen Jernigan and Alicia Marie Jernigan, both of Alabama; and also by one nephew, Lloyd H. Anderson of Dexter.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Fred M. Matthews; three brothers, Marvin C. Miller, Harlan B. Miller, and Walter A. Miller; and one sister, Sybil S. Anderson.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 4:30-7 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 7, 2003.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Samuel Roethemeyer officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
