Gwendolyn Alsup

Gwendolyn Alsup, daughter of the late Elvin Stanford and Maudie Johnson Stanford, was born on Jan. 1, 1925, in Jiles County, Tenn., and died at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at the age of 78.

Mrs. Alsup was a nurse for many years and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Harold T. Alsup on Dec. 16, 1939, at Charleston, and to this union three children were born. Mr. Alsup survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides her husband, survivors include two sons, Harold J. Alsup of Bloomfield and Richard T. Alsup of Dexter; one daughter, Carroll Ann Dowdy of Matthews; one sister, Betty Jo Matte of Crestview, Fla.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Robert Gardner officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery at Dexter.
