Bill Layton

Bill B. Layton, son of the late W.B. Layton and Elsie Tuttle Layton, was born on May 2, 1923, at Malden and died in the Southeast Hospital at Cape Girardeau on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at the age of 80.

Mr. Layton was a retired truck driver for Campbell 66, a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving with the 1901st Aviation Engineers in World War II, involved in the invasion of Okinawa, a member of the Dexter Hospital Auxiliary and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Pansy Maloney on Nov. 28, 1942, at Dexter, and she survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Fred Layton of Millington, Mich., and Jerry Layton of Dexter; two sisters, Marguerite Burke of Dexter and Francis Russell of Crystal River, Fla.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Harry Dean Layton and one brother, H.L. "Bud" Layton.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clifford Wray officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
