Nevadell Whitehead, daughter of the late Floye and Cassie Proffer, was born July 1, 1922, and died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in Waterford, Mich., at the age of 81.

She was married to Avery Whitehead on July 1, 1940.

She was a member for many years at Silver Lake Church of the Nazarene where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She was the former manager of the Laurel Valley Townhouses; and in her free time she enjoyed growing violets in her garden.

Survivors include her husband Avery; two sons, Thomas H. Whitehead and Richard F. Whitehead; a brother, Archie F. Proffer; six grandchildren, Christopher, Anne, Jane, Ray, Sandra and Jessica; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Coats Funeral Home in Waterford, Mich.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Silver Lake Church of the Nazarene, 520 W. Walton Blvd., Pontiac, Mich. Pastors P.L. Liddell, Douglas Bohall and Martin Hodge officiated.

Interment followed at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Mich.

Memorials may be made to Cranbrook Hospital.
