Shelton Rhodes, long-time resident of the Southeast Missouri area, died Dec. 25, 2003, at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter.
Rev. Keith Garland, pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter, will be officiating at the services and assisting will be Pastor Jack Allen.
Mr. Rhodes was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Point Pleasant where he was the second child of the late Roy Lee and Eunice Vera Puckett Rhodes. He married Una Mae Burchfield Rhodes on June 11, 1935, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1995.
Mr. Rhodes was a retired Farm Bureau Insurance agent and was the age of 89 at the time of his death.
Irene Rhodes, wife of three years, survives of the home. Other survivors include one son, Bill Rhodes of Dexter; one daughter, Anna Sweat of Los Banos, Calif.; six grandchildren, Carrie, Jim, Danae, Julie, Jeff, and one grandson Greg who preceded him in death; and eight great-grandchidren. Also surviving are one brother, Harold G. "Scrogg" Rhodes of Kewanee; four sisters, Louise Poyner of Kewanee, Helen Tollison and Violet Porter of New Madrid, and Betty Lou Corgan of Sikeston.
Brothers and sisters who preceded him in death are Cloise Lee, Addie Pauline, Vera Elizabeth, Jimmie Lee, Roy Thomas and Coyle William Rhodes.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at the Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at the Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.
