James Barry Finklea

James Barry Finklea, son of the late John Edwin Finklea and Tera Gwen Godwin Finklea, was born on July 13, 1916, at Blytheville, Ark., and died in the Murray Calloway County Hospital at Murray, Ky., on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at the age of 87.

Mr. Finklea was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter, a land owner and farmer. He attended the University of Arkansas School of Engineering. During his lifetime, he was successful in many early improvements in farming. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and a former resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Charlotte Louise Wiseman on Dec. 27, 1944, at Blytheville, Ark. She survives of the home in Murray.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Jim Finklea of Nashville, Tenn., and John Finklea and wife Melissa of Murray; two daughters, Tera Jeanette Persfull and husband Harold of Bloomfield and Nora Layne Fuchs and husband Joe of Sikeston; one sister, Martha L. Smothermon of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Danna Persfull, Alexis Finklea and Hayes Finklea; and one great-grandchild, Haley Persfull.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Nelson Finklea; two grandchildren, Daren Persfull and Crystal Persfull; one sister, Helen; and one brother, Bob Finklea.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Leist officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
