Elsie Cooper, daughter of the late Thomas Goolsby and Nettie Hogg Goolsby, was born on Nov. 11, 1914, at New Madrid and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at the age of 89.

Mrs. Cooper was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church, a homemaker and a resident of Bernie.

She was united in marriage to Carl Lee Cooper on Dec. 26, 1933, at Bloomfield. Mr. Cooper preceded her in death on April 11, 1997.

Survivors include four daughters, Janis Morris of Leavenworth, Kan., Joyce Kinder of Dallas, Texas, Marilyn Smit of Wildwood, and Joan Schilin of St. Augustine, Fla.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Carl Lee Cooper, Jr.; two brothers, Charlie Goolsby and Howard Goolsby; two sisters, Ruby Sater and Marie Goolsby; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Cooper officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
