Imogene Chism

Imogene Chism, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Florence Gertrude Eaton Springs, was born in Birds Corner on June 10, 1928, and died at her home in Dexter on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the age of 75.

Mrs. Chism had lived in Chicago, Ill., until 1962, when she moved to Bloomfield. In 1971 she moved to Dexter and resided there until her death. She was a member of the Clines Island General Baptist Church. She and her husband owned and operated the Chism strawberry and fish farm for many years.

On July 29, 1944, she was married to Thelmo Andrew Chism in Birds Corner. He preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1985.

Surviving are three sons, James Chism and Charles (Chuck) Chism, both of Bloomfield, and Robert (Bob) Chism of Dexter; two daughters, Sandra Hill of Bloomfield and Debbie Snider of Dexter; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one step-brother, Henry Denton of Thebes, Ill.

She was preceded in death by one brother, George Springs on Oct. 23, 1992.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Watkins of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
