Mr. Landers was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church at Dexter, a retired advisor at the Boiler and Recovery Plant for Louisiana-Pacific, a veteran of the United States Army serving in W.W.II. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for his military service.
He was united in marriage to Lorene George on Dec. 17, 1965 at Arcata, Calif. Mrs. Landers preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2001. He then married Yvonne Carter on Feb. 21, 2002 at Dexter. Mrs. Landers survives of the home in Dexter.
Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Delores Jean Reeder of McKinleyville, Calif.; by four step sons, J.R. Carter and Rodney Carter both of Bloomfield, David Carter and Robert Carter both of St. Louis; by one step daughter, Annette Davis of Ellsinore; by three grandsons, 14 step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
Besides his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Elvin Eugene Landers Jr.; by two brothers, Luther William Landers and Doyle Francis Landers; by one sister, Delores Knuckles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Keith Garland officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
