Helen "Tudy" Smothers, daughter of the late Marion J. Smothers and Gretta Parker Smothers, was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Bernie and died at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at the age of 77.

Mrs. Smothers was a former operator for Bell Telephone Company, a resident of Florissant for the past 35 years, and a former resident of Bernie.

Survivors include two brothers, Edward Smothers of Dexter and Bill Smothers of Florissant; and one sister, Lucille Quinn of Aurora.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Elvin and Leon Smothers; and three sisters, Madge Smothers, Adell Crabtree, and Mary Ruth Christ.

Visitation will be held from 12:30-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie.

Interment will follow at the Ash Hill Cemetery in Fisk.
