Rachel Cardella Stephens, daughter of the late James C. Barton and Sarah Jane Shaw Barton, was born March 22, 1911, at Greely, and died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Ridgeview Nursing Center in Malden at the age of 92.

She was united in marriage to Lester Stephens on Sept. 12, 1931, at Caruthersville, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1985.

She was a member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Jewell Bell of Dexter, Betty Bernice Williams of Pacific, Wanda Marriott of Malden, and Hazel Floyd of Shell Knob; four sons, Jerry Stephens of Clearwater, Fla., Gary Stephens of Bowling Green, Ky., Junior Stephens of Osceola, Ark., and Lindell Stephens of Risco; one sister, Tinia Skaggs of Antioch, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Darrell Stephens; one grandson; one brother, Edgar Barton; five sisters, Beatrice Ward, Mamie Ayers, Esther Richardson, Ava Barton, and Lennie Shelton.

Visitation was held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at Bradshaw Chapel in Malden with Rev. Joe Williams officiating.

Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Mt. Zion General Baptist Church.
