Mr. Whitehead served his country in World War II. He retired from GM Truck Division, Pontiac, Mich., as a group leader. He was a member of Dryden Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Delores Williams of Metamora, Mich., and JoAnn (Walter) Leslie of Indiana; one son, Gary (Chriss) Whitehead of Hope, Mich.; five grandchildren, David (Carolyn) Williams, Robert Williams, Jon (Wendy) Leslie, Michelle Leslie, Susan (Lamont) Terrell; and two great-grandchildren, Tyrus Whitehead and Caitlyn Harden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleota Vernon Whitehead in 2001; his parents, William and Suda Crump Whitehead; seven siblings, Mabel McCaslin, Lawrence Whitehead, Elizabeth Bryant, Blanche Steak, Viril Whitehead, "Bud" Whitehead, and C. Dayton Whitehead.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer, Mich.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer, Mich., officated by Rev. Dave Cornwell.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard.
