Laverne Carmack, 82, a resident of Sikeston and the daughter of the late Sidney and Anna Burton Finney, was born March 26, 1922, in Holland, and died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at her home near Morehouse.

She was a cook for Headstart for 26 years, a homemaker and a loving mother. She was of the Baptist belief.

On Aug. 5, 1939, she was married to Allen "Buck" Carmack, who preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Charles "Sonnie" Carmack of Essex and Terry Carmack of Sikeston; four daughters, Vernice King of Sikeston, Sandra Nations of St. Charles, Ill., Kathy Williams and Kim Malloy, both of Essex; three sisters, Mildred Brown of Brawley, Calif., Lillian Causey of Windfall, Ind., and Wanda Cochran of Sikeston; one brother, Richard Finney of Windfall, Ind.; 11 grandchidlren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Allen Carmack; four brothers; one sister; and one grandson.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston with Pastor Mike Brown of Harvest Assembly of God in Essex officiating.

Interment will follow in the Matthews Cemetery.
