Harvey H. Smothers, 96, of Bloomfield, was born Sept. 21, 1907, near Swinton and died April 22, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was the son of Orble and Minnie Mann Smothers.
Smothers was united in marriage to Zenoba Hobbs on June 18, 1927. They were married nearly 77 years.
He was employed by International Shoe Company approximately 15 years form 1927 to 1942. He moved to Benton in 1939 and then to rural Bloomfield in 1943 when he pursued his life-long love of farming.
He attended the Assembly of God Church in Bell City and later attended First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
Beside his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Pam Smothers of Montgomery, Texas and Gary and Linda Smothers of Bloomfield; two granddaughters, Diane Sherry Case of Santa Monica, Calif., and Pamela Tennant of Decatur, Ala.; five great granddaughters, Meghann, Abby, Olivia Tennant and Leah Jane and Natalie Ann Case; two brothers, Elvis and John Smothers of Cape Girardeau; and one sister, Helen Stewart of Bloomfield.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Visitation was held Saturday, April 24, 2004, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, April 25, 2004, at the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield with the Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating.
Interment will follow in the George Cemetery.
