Thell Fletcher Lewis, 90, was born at Leora on Feb. 24, 1914, the son of the late Oscar and Sophia (Tanner) Lewis, and died on Thursday, April 29, 2004, at St. Charles.

He earned his living at Thell Lewis Grocery Store and was a carpenter. He lived at Curdton (Fairview) until 1979 when he and his family moved to Dexter.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Gladys Geneva (Christian) Lewis; one daughter, Shelby Jean (Howard) Johnson; four grandchildren, Sherri (John) Grafflage, Terri Chadwell, Christine Grant, and Kevin Johnson; and one great-granddaughter, Amanda Lowry. He also leaves behind Ruth Lewis, Ruth Ann (Dennis) Hoggard, Charlene (Terry) Bowman, Sandy (Marilyn) Gill, Katherine (Wilbur) McClain, Carol Sue (Howard) Shelton, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Preceding him in death are his father and mother; one daughter, Phyllis; sister Nurcine Graves; brother-in-law Ralph Graves; brother, Charlie Lewis; nephews, Johnnie Graves, Thell Leon Graves, and niece Norma Ann Gill.

Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2004, with interment at Fairview Cemetery following service.

First General Baptist Church will officiate with Bro. Clifford Wray and Bro. Kenneth Biggs.
