Woodrow D. Smith, the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Nancy Jane Shelby Smith, was born in Dudley on Sept. 11, 1927, and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at the age of 76.
Mr. Smith had lived in Puxico since 1978. He was a retired inspector for General Motors Auto Manufacturing Company in St. Louis. He was a life member of the VFW Post #7822 and attended the Assembly of God Church for many years. He attended the Puxico First Christian Church at the time of his passing.
On Dec. 8, 1947, he was married to Nellie Ruth Ashbaugh in Puxico.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie Smith of Puxico; one son, Donnie Smith of Harrah, Okla.; two daughters, Joan Short of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jeannie Lovett of Puxico; one brother, Vaughn Smith of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Norma Dean Martin of St. Louis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Other relatives and many friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Harty.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2004, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico with VFW services to follow.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico with Rev. Wiley McGhee of Puxico officiating.
Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
