Georgia Hester Birchfield, daughter of the late Luther Monroe Taylor and Florence Alnora Chase Taylor, was born July 9, 1915, near Essex and died at her residence in Dexter on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the age of 88.
Mrs. Birchfield attended the Cane Creek Christian Church, was a member of the Golden Age Quilting Club, a member of the Dexter Heritage House Association, a homemaker and resident of Dexter.
She was united in marriage to Arthur Graden Birchfield on June 17, 1933, at Campbell. Mr. Birchfield preceded her in death on April 11, 1990.
Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Sue and Wes Eskew of Dexter, Colleen and Carl Godfrey of Grass Valley, Calif., Linda and Bob McClard of Hamilton, Ohio, and Bonnie and Larry Lemons of Stephens City, Va.; son-in-law, Bob Jenkins of Dexter; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Dale Birchfield in 1941; two daughters, DeAnn Jenkins in 1989 and Sondra Birchfield in 1943; one granddaughter, Beth Godfrey; and one brother, Buss Taylor.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2004, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating.
Interment will follow in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter.
Memorials may be made to the Stoddard County Children's Home.
