Winnie McCanne

Wilma "Winnie" McCanne, daughter of the late Robert Bland Kemp and Anna Virginia Dawson Kemp, was born on June 11, 1919 in Calloway County and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at the age of 84.

Mrs. McCanne attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Dexter, was a member of the Dexter Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer at the Dexter Senior Center, a member of the D.A.V., a member of the Dexter Eagles club #4062, a homemaker and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Dr. Joe Ridings McCanne on April 24, 1943, at Lawton, Okla. Dr. McCanne preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1984.

Survivors include six children: Patricia Tripp and Emily Scott, both of Columbia, Katherine Scott of Cary, N.C., Sue Snider of Sugarloaf Shores, Fla., James McCanne of Malden, and Mary Robertson of Dexter; one brother, Charles Kemp of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Frances Simmons of Overland Park, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson; three brothers, R.B. Kemp, Paul Kemp and Jack Kemp.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. M.L. Duffie officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, May 8, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Columbia.
