Edna Barks

Edna Barks, the daughter of the late Peter Shade and Gladys Hefner Rodgers, was born in McGee on Nov. 10, 1919, and died at Elder Care of Marble Hill on Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at the age of 84.

Mrs. Barks retired from Bussman Fuse after 25 years. She moved to McGee and later to Puxico. She has lived with her daughter since 2001. She attended the Puxico General Baptist Church in Puxico, was a member of the Good Neighbor Quilting Club at McGee, and she also volunteered at the Wappapello Civic Center for over ten years.

On Dec. 4, 1935, she was married to Sherman Barks in McGee.

Surviving are her husband, Sherman Barks of Greenville; one son, Marvin Barks of Silva; two daughters, Louise Brotherton of Marble Hill, Eula Smith of Plainwell, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Rodgers of Tule Lake, Calif., and Peter Shade Rodgers of Cape Girardeau; and two sisters, Lois Wilfong of McGee and Mary Jane Barks of Cahokia, Ill.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Lyman Rodgers and one sister, Thelma Stephens.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2004, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with the Rev. Kenneth Lambert of Bloomfield and Rev. Ray Placher officiating.

Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery near McGee with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
