Mr. Hill lived most of his life in the Malden area. He was a retired farm laborer and was a member of the New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church near Essex.
Surviving are his mother, Harriet Hill of Essex; four sons, Melvin Hill of East St. Louis, Darrel Hill and Tony Hill, both of Belleville, Ill., and Marvin Hill, Jr. of San Bernardino, Calif.; four daughters, Sharon King of Belleville, Ill., Kim Hill and Evette Hill, both of California, and Debra Mathis of Malden; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Chester Earl Hill of Essex, Donnie Wayne Hill of St. Louis, Ben Hill of Chicago, Ill., John Lee Hill of Sikeston, Charles Edward Hill of New Madrid; and Ernest Hill of Marion, Ind.; five sisters, Betty Gay and Willie Lee Bailey, both of Malden, Mabel Jacob and Annie Thompson, both of Essex, and Mildred Hill of Flint, Mich.; and two special friends, Aleaner Reed and Sue Mae McCoy.
He was preceded in death by one sister; and three brothers.
Visitation will be held after 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. James Turk of Sikeston officiating.
Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Malden with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
