Chester Hopkins

Chester Hopkins, son of the late Joe and Emma Crenshaw Hopkins, was born at Bloomfield on Jan. 14, 1914, and died at Beverly Healthcare in Bloomfield on Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the age of 90.

Mr. Hopkins was a lifelong resident of the Bloomfield community. As a younger man, he farmed but in later years was an employee of Elder Manufacturing Co. in Bloomfield where he retired in 1976 after 28 years of service. Mr. Hopkins was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during World War II and was of the General Baptist faith.

On Sept. 8, 1956, he was married to Virginia Goff. She survives of the home in Bloomfield. Other survivors include three sons, Earl Ray Hopkins of Neosho, Randy Hopkins of Bloomfield, and Rick Hopkins of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Mabel Wilder of St. Louis and Edith Pegg of Hillsboro, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by twin infant sons and six brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Kevin Eskew and Rev. Vyron Yount officiating.

Interment will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military honors at the cemetery.
