Stanley E. Land

Stanley E. Land, 73, a native of Neosho, died at his son's home in Redondo Beach, Calif., on Thursday, July 15, 2004. He was born April 14, 1931, in Neosho, the son of Elvin and Irene Land and the stepson of Florence Land and Winifred Land, all of Neosho. He was in his 50th year of service in the ministry. He completed his graduate study as a Disciples of Christ minister at Brite Divinity School (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1958 and began his ministry that year in Springfield. He then served two years in Republic (1960-1962); seven years in Afton (1962-1968); 18 years in Dexter (1968-1985); and 10 years in Parson, Kan. (1985-1995). In 1995 he retired to Neosho but continued to pastor at the South Joplin Christian Church and the Neosho First Presbyterian Church.

He married Lowenn Cook on Aug. 23, 1956, in DuQuoin, Ill., and she survives of the home in Neosho.

Additional survivors include three sons, Doug Land and wife, Jamie, Kansas City, Chris Land, Studio City, Calif., and Kent Land and wife, Merlan, of Redondo Beach, Calif.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Walker and Patricia Land.

Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church in Neosho on Saturday, July 31, 2004, at 1 p.m. Officiating ministers will be Dr. Bill Masters, Rev. Craig Kirby-Grove, and Rev. Gene Akeman.
