William R. Schmidt, 82, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of St. Louis, was born June 30, 1922, the son of the late Frank Schmidt, and died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at the Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.

He was a retired steel worker at Step Brother Co. in St. Louis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II.

On Aug. 31, 1957, he and Eula Fish were united in marriage at St. Louis, and she survives.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Schmidt of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Helen Briesachen of Farmington; a step-brother, Joe Meyer of St. Louis; and a step-sister, Mary Meyer of St. Louis.

Visitation was held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Rev. Dale Fish officiating.

Interment followed in Crow Cemetery at Sullivan at 3:30 p.m.
