Bobby E. Whitehead, the son of Nellie Culbertson Whitehead and the late Homer J. Whitehead, was born in Brownwood on Oct. 11, 1934, and died at Puxico Nursing Center on Monday, Sept. 19, 2004, at the age of 69.

Mr. Whitehead had lived in Illinois for many years and moved to Puxico two years ago. He was a retired truck driver and mechanic with Klinke Automotive in Granite City, Ill. He enjoyed stock car racing.

He was first married to Jerrie Bentley and later married Mabel Schroder.

Surviving are four sons, Larry Whitehead of Madison County, Ill., James Whitehead of Puxico, David Whitehead of Wood River, Ill., and Jeff Whitehead of Cottage Hills, Ill.; three daughters, Diane Littlefield and Lisa Piper, both of Cottage Hills, Ill., and Lynn Wesley of Alton, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his mother, Nellie Whitehead of Puxico; one brother, Michael Whitehead of Zalma; four sisters, Wanda Schell, Dorothy Risell, and Connie Caldwell, all of St. Louis, and Cora Page of Leora.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Whitehead; and one brother, Leland Whitehead.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico with Bro. Tim Hedge of Puxico officiating.

Interment will follow in the Balch Cemetery near Zalma with full military rites conducted by the Missouri Military Honors Program. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico is in charge of arrangements.
