Mabel E. George, the daughter of the late William Steven and Nannie Farish Clay, was born in Winston County, Miss., on March 22, 1915, and died at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on Sept. 30, 2004, at the age of 89.

She had lived in Ravenden Springs, Ark., for 20 years before moving back to Dexter in 1989. She was of the Methodist faith and held a life membership in the Eastern Star Lodge in Ravenden Springs, Ark. On Oct. 19, 1939, she was married to Andrew "Boots" George in Parma. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1994.

Surviving are three brothers, Ansel Clay of Dexter, Brooks Clay of Milledgeville, Ga., and Welton Clay of Inverness, Fla.; three sisters, Imogene Sims and Rosemary Roberts, both of Dexter, and Margaret Bailey of Milledgeville, Ga.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at the Watkins & sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements
