Gains Harding Hodges

Gains Harding Hodges, a resident of Bernie, was born Dec. 3, 1920, at Verden, Okla., the son of the late William Walter Hodges and Dixie Lee Brownen Hodges, and died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at his residence at the age of 83.

On May 27, 1939, he was united in marriage to Glendola L. Uhles at New Madrid.

He had served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He retired from the Missouri Highway Department in 1972. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Glendola Hodges of Bernie; two daughters, Henrietta Austin of Bell City and Wanda Sparks of Malden; one sister, Anita Jacques of Shawnee, Okla.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Hodges, Monroe Hodges, Dennis Hodges, and DeLeon Hodges.

Visitation was held at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Bradshaw Chapel in Malden.

Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites.
