He lived in Flint, Mich., for about 15 years and had served in the Army during Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed mechanic.
On May 28, 1971, he was united in marriage to Penny Bays in Alabama.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Akin and wife Tali, and Michael Akin and his wife Shaundra, both of Dexter; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and David Charles of Dexter; three brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Bea Akin of St. Clair, Frank and Karen Akin of Peveley, and Charley and Deloris Akin of Oak Grove; four sisters, Rose Lee Payton and husband Leon, of Dittmer, Ethel Payla of Dudley, and Betty Roberts of Splendora, Texas; and Margarett Faries, her husband Bill, of Puxico; 11 grandchildren; and a special friend, Marvin Stewart of Dexter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.W. Akin and Dora Akin; a sister, Dorothy Rhodes; and a brother, Jessie Akin.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk with Pastor Cris Dixon officiating.
Interment will follow in Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.
