Shirley Johnston, daughter of the late Fred J. Davis and Victoria Watkins Davis, was born on May 1, 1936 at Puxico and died in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center at Poplar Bluff on November 22, 2004 at the age of 68.

Mrs. Johnston was a member of the New Bethel General Baptist Church in Dexter, a retired sewing room supervisor for Elder Manufacturing in Dexter where she worked for 47 years and resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Paul Johnston on July 2, 1955 at Puxico and to this union two children were born. Mr. Johnston survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides her husband, survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David and Amy Johnston, of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Terry Fields, of Dexter; one sister, Patricia Frields, of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren: Chrissy Herren, Julia Johnston and Michael Johnston; and one great-granddaughter, Lexi Herren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Findley and Maudie Hartzell; one step-sister, Grace Peterson; and one step-brother, Buford Taylor.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Dunivan officiating.

Interment followed in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
