Gladsia Bland

Gladsia Bland, daughter of the late Frank Anderson and Effie Jane Treat Anderson, was born Sept. 9, 1909, at Dexter and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the age of 95.

Mrs. Bland was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter, a member of the Dexter Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a former tour guide for Pressley Tours and served as the Dexter City Greeter for many years.

She was united in marriage to Verne C. Russell on June 1, 1932, at Dexter. Mr. Russell preceded her in death on July 22, 1971. She then married Herbert Bland on Aug. 14, 1976, at Dexter. Mr. Bland preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1990.

Survivors include one brother, Walter Anderson of Peoria, Ill.; one step-son, Hadley Bland of Berkeley, Calif.; her sister-in-law, Nell Anderson of Dexter; two step-daughters, Betty Ann Adams and Peggy Fairchild, both of the state of California.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lester Anderson, Mervin Anderson, Kenneth Anderson and Harry Anderson.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Leist and Pastor Roy Sherfield officiating.

Interment followed in the Old Bethel Cemetery near Dexter.
