James Shaw, the son of the late Ben and Lillie Cooper Harris, was born in Sardis, Miss., on July 14, 1919, and died at the home of his daughter in Malden on Dec. 31, 2004, at the age of 85.
Mr. Shaw had lived most of his life in the Parma and Essex communities and had lived in Malden since 1988. He was a retired farmer and was a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Essex.
On Sept. 1, 1948, he was married to Mozell McKeller in Piggott, Ark.
Surviving are his wife, Mozell Shaw of Malden; three sons, Bennie J. Shaw of Elkhart, Ind., Elmer J. Shaw and Oscar L. Shaw, both of Malden; five daughters, Bernice Dennis Taylor of Essex, Elsie Hester of St. Louis, Fanny Farr, Alfreda Shaw and Dorothy Shaw, all of Malden; 29 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gracie Lee Wynn of Sikeston.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lee A. Shaw on Sept. 13, 2003; and two children in infancy.
Visitation will be held after 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. James Turk of Sikeston officiating.
Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Malden.
