Bonard Newell, son of the late Barney Lee Newell and Lucy Reeves Newell, was born on Oct. 27, 1926, at Baldwin, Miss., and died in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center at Poplar Bluff on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at the age of 78.
Mr. Newell was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter, a former farmer, a former foreman at the Sikeston Sheltered Workshop and a resident of Grayridge.
He was united in marriage to Mary Kathryn Graue on Nov. 12, 1945, at Jonesboro, Ark. Mrs. Newell survives of the home in Grayridge.
Besides his wife, survivors include three sons, David Newell of Dexter, Terry Newell and Randy Newell of Grayridge; six daughters, Jennie Pullium of Grayridge, Norma Hargrove of Dexter, Donna Pemberton of Morehouse, Glenda Kearbey, Tresa Freeland and Sandra Suggs, all of Sikeston; one brother, Ray Newell of Essex; 26 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, James Newell, Willie Newell, Travis Newell, Bernice Newell and Boyce Newell; and one sister, Iva Mae Brawley.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Collins, Rev. Bob Wiggins, and Rev. Ira Sandafer officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
