Rita M. Hofmann, the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Ritta Salyer Terry, was born in Parma on May 25, 1928, and died in Florence, Ala., on Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at the age of 76.

She was born in Parma, raised in Scott, Miss., and had been a resident of Florence, Ala., since 1953. She was a retired teacher and had attended Mississippi State College for Women, received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Delta State Teacher's College and her Master's Degree from the University of North Alabama. She was a founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

She was married to John W. Hofmann 56 years ago, and he survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael T. Hofmann of Killen, Ala., and Timothy L. Hofmann of Decatur, Ala.; one daughter, Shaun H. Grove of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, James Crabtree of Belton, Ala.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at 3 p.m. in the Elkins Funeral Home in Florence, Ala.

Graveside services and interment will follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in the Parma Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Parma in charge of local arrangements.
