Rex L. Jeffress

Rex L. Jeffress, son of the late Delmer S. Jeffress and Viola Hopkins Jeffress, was born on March 9, 1922, at Bernie and died at his residence in Kennett on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at the age of 82.

Mr. Jeffress, a former resident of Bernie, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bernie, a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II, and had been a salesman for the Tayloe Paper Company of Memphis, Tenn., until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Betty I. Allen in May 1941 at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Jeffress survives of the home in Kennett.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons: Joel Glenn Jeffress of Bernie and Rex L. Jeffress, II of Kennett; two daughters, Cheryl Wilcoxson of Kennett and Kim Ott of Flippin, Ark.; six grandchildren, Shannyn Wilcoxson of Jonesboro, Ark., Kim Hollahan of Nashville, Tenn., Doug Wilcoxson of Jonesboro, Ark., Kortney Ott of Panama City, Fla., Jill Jeffress Bristow of Fayetteville, Ark., and July Jeffress Cude of Hornersville; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Elyse Wilcoxson of Jonesboro, Ark.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glendale Jeffress and Carlyn Jeffress; and one sister, Betty Winters.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will then be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, with Rev. Scott Andrews officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
