Melissa Placher

Melissa Placher, daughter of the late Martin and Ethel Ross Sifford, was born in Puxico on May 7, 1915, and died in the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at the age of 89.

On March 31, 1935, she was married to Martin C. Placher in Puxico. Mr. Placher preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1992.

Mrs. Placher was a lifelong resident of the Puxico area. She was the oldest living member of the Brown General Baptist Church of Puxico. She loved quilting and flower gardening.

She is survived by three sons, Charles E. Placher, Ray Placher and Johnny Placher, all of Puxico; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and Howard Sifford; and one sister, Ruby Haney.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in the Brown General Baptist Church in Puxico with Rev. Johnny Buttry of Puxico officiating and Rev. Marshall Link of Puxico assisting.

Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery near Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
