Emma Lorene Brown, the daughter of the late Alva Levi and Amelia Jane Grews Griffy, was born in Puxico on Feb. 18, 1928, and died in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center on Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the age of 77.

On Dec. 9, 1946, she was married to Louis Sylvester "Brownie" Brown in Piggott, Ark. Mr. Brown preceded her in death on June 12, 1998.

Mrs. Brown had lived most of her life in Stoddard County, living in Dexter for 36 years before moving to Poplar Bluff in 1986. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Fisk and a past member of the Dexter Elks Lodge #2439 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Jean Fortner of Bernie, Emma Daphene Hopkins and Loretta Jane Mikel, both of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry M. and Raymond L. Griffy.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with the Revs. Luther "Bud" and Bonnie Goins of Poplar Bluff officiating.

Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery near Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
