Lola L. Cates, daughter of the late Walker and Minnie Palmer, was born at Bloomfield on Nov. 3, 1919, and died at St. Louis on Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the age of 85.
Mrs. Cates had spent most of her life in the Bloomfield community but was a resident of St. Louis at the time of her passing. She worked at Elder Manufacturing Co. in Bloomfield several years and she and her husband owned and operated Cates Auto Parts Store in Bloomfield. In September 1938 she was married to Elvis Cates, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1974.
Survivors include one son, Lt. Col. "Ret." Ronnie Cates of Port Angles, Wash.; one daughter, Elva Walsh of St. Louis; one brother, Raleigh "Fuzz" Palmer of Aquilla; two grandchildren, Kevin Walsh and Laurie Wingerter, both of St. Louis; and four great-grandsons, Danny and Kenny Walsh and Cody and Ryan Wingerter, all of St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Visitation was held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:30 a.m. in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Vyron Yount officiating.
Interment followed in the Gravel Hill Cemetery near Bloomfield.
