Woodie Payne

Woodie Payne, daughter of the late William Allen Strawn and Kathalena Tucker Strawn, was born Oct. 26, 1916, at Bath Springs, Tenn., and died in the Beverly Healthcare at Bloomfield on Monday, March 14, 2005, at the age of 88.

Mrs. Payne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield, a volunteer member of the Helping Hands at the First Baptist Church, a homemaker and resident of Bloomfield.

She was united in marriage to Charles M. Payne on Dec. 24, 1936, at Caruthersville. Mr. Payne preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1995.

Survivors include one son, James Edward Payne of Godley, Texas; three daughters, Martha Sue Mann of Benton, Ky., Mary Lou Mann of Pacific, and Virginia DeGroot of Bloomfield; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, John Richard Payne; four brothers, Rex Strawn, Newton Strawn, Ben Strawn, and Robert Strawn; and one sister, Carolyn Newton.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. - noon, Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funerl services will then be conducted at noon on Saturday in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Arthur officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Helping Hands Ministry at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
