Arvel Newton Gough

Arvel Newton Gough, son of the late William A. Gough and Addie Gillis Gough, was born June 2, 1916, at Dexter and died in the Malden Nursing Center on Friday, April 15, 2005, at the age of 88.

Mr. Gough was a member of the White Oak Grove General Baptist Church of rural Bernie. He had farmed in his earlier years and later had worked at the Bernie Public Schools as a custodian until his retirement.

He was married first to Eva Kilbreath in 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1996. He later married Edith Eva Foust on July 17, 1965, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 1997.

Survivors include one son, Harold Gough of Malden; one step-son, Melvin B. Gage of Tightwad; one brother, Marvin Gough of Flint, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and his wives, he was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Marie Collins; and one sister, Helen Gough.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie with Rev. Bill Pennington officiating.

Interment will follow in the Smith-Stevenson Cemetery, rural Dexter.
