Leslie F. Cox, son of the late Floyd Cox, Sr. and Marjorie Fellows Cox, was born July 19, 1946, at Dexter and died Sunday, April 17, 2005, in the St. Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau at the age of 58.

A lifelong resident of Stoddard County, Mr. Cox graduated from Dexter High School in 1964. He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and served in Viet Nam, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal before being honorably discharged in 1972.

He worked in the financial field for many years before his health forced him to retire. He worked for many years as financial officer at Richardson-Wynette Motors in Malden.

An avid gardener and fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, he also enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

On March 25, 1978, he married Brenda Barrett at Dexter. She survives of the home in Bernie.

Also surviving are three sisters, Doris and her husband William Nelson, ElFreda Cox, and Cathy and husband Gary Starnes, all of Dexter; one brother, Floyd (Sunnye) Cox, Jr. of Boyton Beach, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Cox of Lexington, Ky.; a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris Leroy Cox and B.J. Cox.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating.

Interment will follow at 11 a.m. in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military honors provided by the Stoddard County Military Honors Guard.
