John W. Wood, the son of the late Carl and Clara Ruth Holland Wood, was born in Marston on Sept. 19, 1937, and died at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the age of 67.

Mr. Wood had been a resident of Southeast Missouri all his life and in Dexter the past 46 years. He had owned and operated his own concrete construction company and was a member of the New Bethel General Baptist Church.

On July 3, 1959, he was married to Nancy Sitz in Essex.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Wood of Dexter; two sons, Steve Wood of Bloomfield and David Wood of Dexter; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Tom Wood of Bloomfield; one sister, Carlotta Mace of East Moline, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Katie Wood; one brother; and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Bro. Buddy Heaton of Bloomfield officiating.

Interment will be in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
