Eugene Arthur "Art" Broadhurst

Eugene Arthur "Art" Broadhurst, the son of the late James Henry and Mildred F. Herron Broadhurst, was born in Pittsburg, Kan., on Dec. 18, 1911, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare Facility in Dexter on Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the age of 93.

Mr. Broadhurst had been a resident of St. Louis for many years before moving to Dexter in 1991. He had owned and operated Berkley Lumber Company in Berkley before his retirement. He was affiliated with the Catholic Church and was a member of the Dexter Elks Lodge, Dexter Eagles Aerie, and the American Legion. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On March 23, 1943, he was married to Helen Marie Coosman in St. Charles County. She preceded him in death in August 1974. Also preceding him in death was a son, James Anthony Broadhurst; one sister, Gretchen Fann; and one brother, Charles Broadhurst.

Surviving are four sisters, Verna Lindsey and Charlene Beamer, both of Sacramento, Calif., Florence McIntire of Ozark, and Lucille Kennedy of St. Louis; and one brother, Jim Broadhurst of Walnut Grove, Calif.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Visitation will also be held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Hutchens Mortuary in Florissant.

interment will be in the Lake Charles Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis at a later date with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
