William Luther Stephens, son of the late William Everet Stephens and Dollie Lucille Mason Stephens, was born Sept. 17, 1932, at Bernie and died in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., on Saturday, April 23, 2005, at the age of 72.
Mr. Stephens had been a farmer and had been a bus driver for the Bernie Public Schools, was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War and was a member of the Bernie Nazarene Church.
He was married to Shirley Carolyn Jennings on Oct. 2, 1955, at Hernando, Miss. Mrs. Stephens remains of the home in Bernie.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Treat of Bernie, Tamela Jordan of Puxico, and Theresa Slinkard of Bernie; two brothers, Gary Stephens of Starke, Fla., and Donald Ray Stephens of Bernie; two sisters, Lucille Collins and Wanda Smith, both of Bernie; three granddaughters; three grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Tucker.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2005, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie with Rev. Don Wells officiating.
Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Missouri Funeral Honors Guard.
