Barbara Johnston, daughter of the late Ollie Pruitt and Lela Kamplain Pruitt, was born Oct. 15, 1920, at Essex and died on Friday, May 13, 2005, in the Sainte Genevieve Hospital at Sainte Genevieve at the age of 84.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dexter, a former bookkeeper for Stovall Clothing in Dexter, and a former resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Clifford Bryan Johnston on Dec. 22, 1940, in Dexter. Mr. Johnston preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2000.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue Morgan of Dexter and Cindy Koetting of Sainte Genevieve; one sister, Louise Hughes of Louisiana; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from noon until 1 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

A graveside service and interment was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating.
