James Stoker, son of the late Lester Stoker and Mildred Hudgens Stoker, was born Feb. 7, 1932, at rural Dexter and died in the Cypress Point Healthcare at Dexter on Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at the age of 73.
Mr. Stoker was a member of the Mt. Gilead (Hills) General Baptist Church near Bloomfield, a former mechanic with Allen Christian Buick in Dexter, a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War, and a resident of Dexter.
He was united in marriage to Alberta Underwood on Dec. 15, 1967, at Dexter. Mrs. Stoker preceded him in death on May 24, 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Stoker of Bloomfield and Danny Stoker of Dexter; two step-sons, Ronald Underwood of Dexter and Terral Ellsworth of St. Louis; three step-daughters, Shelah Lathrope of Nashville, Tenn., Gloria Moore and Kay Pyles, both of Dexter; three brothers, Gene Stoker, Lonnie Stoker and Robert Stoker, all of Dexter; five sisters, Marge Rickman and Pat Moore, both of Dexter, and Janice McCollum and Rachel Weaver, both of Bloomfield, and Kay Marsh of Costa Mesa, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Stoker and Gary Dean Stoker; two sisters, Linda Stoker and Marie Edwards; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny King officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
