Earl Clyde Wood, son of the late Marcellous Christopher Wood and Matilda Elizabeth Jones Wood, was born Sept. 6, 1917, at Malden and died in the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on Friday, July 8, 2005, at the age of 87.

Mr. Wood was a farmer, a member of the Bethany General Baptist Church of rural Campbell, and a resident of Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Cleo Hilda Malin on Jan. 5, 1935, at Gideon. Mrs. Wood preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 1989.

Survivors include four daughters, Donna Rae Young of Dexter, Barbara Jean Spitzer of Bernie, Betty Jo Lindley of Eureka, and Elizabeth Ann Wood of Bernie; two sisters, Vella Greenfield of Flint, Mich., and Ruth Dignan of Malden; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents and his wife by one brother and six sisters.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2005, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bryon Johnson officiating.

Interment followed in the Malden Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.
