Gilbert W. Leonberger was born May 18, 1931, at Campbell and died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at John Cochran V.A. Medical Center in St. Louis.

He attended Pleasant Grove Community Church in Pyletown. He was a metal fabricator at Combustion Engineering in St. Louis for 37 years. After retiring, he moved to Poplar Bluff where he managed the Motor Harbor for a few years. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On April 8, 2002, he was united in marriage to Daphna Russom, and she survives.

Survivors include seven step-children: Bill Pierce, Tom Pierce, and Dan Pierce, all of Poplar Bluff, Randy Pierce of Leslie, Jeff Pierce of Bernie, Paul Pierce of Dexter, and Dara Laird of Tuscon, Ariz.; one sister, Nelda Long of Marine, Ill.; 14 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk officiated by Rev. Ron Williams with interment following at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley. There will be military honors at the cemetery.
